Journalling (in black) under all the pics says
It’s been 25 years to the day of Dad’s death when Ian and I returned to visit his home town. It was strange - So many things were familiar whilst others were completely alien. We drove past the Boral Timber Plant unaware of its significance. This was Standard Sawmilling company with a new name. A company started by my grandfather and toiled over by my father and all of his brothers for decades. They built it up into a thriving business, a booming industry, and a trendsetter for future loggers. It was the backbone of Murwillumbah and helped to develop the town into a bustling regional centre. Now it is all gone. All that remains is white shingled roofed shed, part of the red building (still on stilts) and the original office building. They showed us photos of it in its glory days and of how they have expanded it in so many ways. Dad isn’t here anymore and his soul does not rest within this mill’s permietre. but I was still glad to have come, on his anniversary, to let him know that his legacy and his heritage are not forgotten.
